Smoke alarm

  • obligation as an owner of a property.
  • Please note that section 64A of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 indicates that the repairs to the smoke alarm covers maintenance, installing the battery & making sure the smoke alarm is in working order & needs to be carried out as a matter of urgency.
  • Failure to comply with your duty of care by not properly maintaining your smoke alarms may result in penalties & not being covered by your insurance company in case of fire.
  • The smoke alarm installed MUST comply with Australian standards. Therefore, you need to take appropriate steps to make sure your investment property complies with laws in reference to the smoke alarm.
